Dr. Sarah Freeman joined Saint Augustine’s University (SAU) October 15, 2013 as the director of the Center for Teaching and Learning and chair of the Department of Education. A meet and greet reception is scheduled for Friday, November 15 from 11 a.m. to noon in the Benson Building, Room 205.

The Center for Teaching and Learning offers a series of professional development workshops centered on various aspects of the duties and responsibilities of faculty at SAU. Session topics generally fall within three major categories: rigor, relevance and relationship. The training and resources provided by the Center for Teaching and Learning are designed to assist faculty in expanding their understanding of both the science and the art of effective teaching.

Previously, Freeman served as the director of the Office of Faculty Professional Development at North Carolina Central University and also worked as an educational consultant in the Assessment Development Section of the N.C. Department of Public Instruction. Her professional teaching experiences include several years as a high school science and mathematics teacher with Wake County Public Schools, an adjunct instructor with Edgecombe Community College and a science and mathematics instructor with the then Saint Augustine’s College Upward Bound Program under the direction of Mr. Antonio Stephens.

She has a B.S. in biochemistry, a MAED in science education and a Ph.D. in education with a concentration in curriculum, instruction and assessment. Her areas of expertise include curriculum development, assessment and differentiated instruction. She has a deep-rooted passion for the educational process and strongly believes that continued growth, learning and understanding are essential for stages of educational development, birth through post-doctoral.
