Saint Augustine’s University Tops ECSU for Season's First Volleyball Win

Saint Augustine’s University defeated Elizabeth City State University 3-1 on the final day of the CIAA Round-Up I for its first women’s volleyball victory of the season on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013.

Skyla Isadore, a junior from Morne Castries, St. Lucia, had 17 kills while Olivia Porter, a freshman from Bakersfield, Calif., and Jamie Goff, a senior from Rubonia, Fla., both added 11 kills each for the Lady Falcons. Julieesa Thomas handed out 42 assists and Chelsea Farrior, a junior from Tampa, Fla., recorded 19 digs.

The Lady Vikings won the first game 25-23, but the Lady Falcons rebounded to win the next three games 25-17, 25-14 and 25-20. Rosetta Becerra led ECSU with 11 kills.

The Lady Falcons were 1-2 at the event. They lost to Chowan University 3-0 and Virginia State University 3-1 on Saturday. The Round-Up was hosted by Chowan University at the Helms Center.

Victoria Davis, a senior from San Diego, Calif., led the Lady Falcons with 17 kills and Isadore added 10 kills against Virginia State. Davis also added 11 digs while Thomas and Meghan Mahon, a freshman from Houston, Texas, added 23 and 12 assists, respectively. Davis had six kills and Mahon had 12 assists against Chowan.

St. Aug is in action again in a CIAA match against Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C., on Thursday, Sept. 19. The match starts at 6 p.m.
